Coach:
Matt Cushing has compiled one of the highest winning percentages among
active NCAA Division III coaches in the country at .779 (188-47-18)
Under Cushing's leadership, Wheaton has qualified for postseason play in
each of his 12 seasons, including an NCAA Tournament national semifinal
finish in 2003, a national quarterfinal placement in 2001 and additional
NCAA bids in 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2005. The Lyons also captured the
Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) title in 1998 and New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championships
in 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005.
Cushing was named regional coach of the year by the National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2001, and coach of the year by
the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Association (EMSCA) in 2000,
NEWMAC in 1998 and 2001, and New England Intercollegiate Soccer League (NEISL)
in 1997 and 2001. He is currently the coaching director at the Crusaders
United Club in Plymouth, Massachusetts, and has also coached the
Under-17 Olympic Development team in Massachusetts.
A scout for the New York Red Bulls of Major League Soccer (MLS), Cushing
has groomed five professional players at Wheaton. James Greenslit '06
signed a contract with the New England Revolution reserves, and Dan
Antoniuk is with the A-League's Montreal Impact after playing three
seasons for the Portland Timbers. Jim Manganello '99 and Oscar Medina
'97 spent time with the Cape Cod Crusaders of the United States
Interregional Soccer League (USISL), while Jeremy Long '99 played for
the Boston Bulldogs of the A-League. Cushing has also witnessed 10
All-Americans, 31 All-New England selections and seven NEWMAC
Player-of-the-Year recipients.
In addition to his success on the field, Cushing performs an active role
outside the realm of coaching. He is currently the national chair for
the NSCAA Division III rankings committee. Cushing has served as the
regional chair of the rankings committee and as the vice president of
the NEISL, an organization that recognized him with the NEISL Service
Award in 2002. He also handled regional chair duties for the Division
III ratings board for three years, while serving on the NCAA Tournament
selection committee for four years.
In 1994, Cushing earned a United States Soccer Federation (USSF)
National "B" license. He received a national diploma from the NSCAA in
1992, followed by an advanced national diploma in 1993.
Prior to coming to Wheaton, Cushing was the assistant coach at Division
I power Rutgers University, which advanced to the 1993 NCAA Tournament
after capturing the Atlantic 10 Conference title. He also spent the
previous two years on the coaching staff at Lafayette College.
A 1988 University of Massachusetts-Amherst graduate with a bachelor's
degree in sport management, Cushing was a captain on the 1986 and 1987
Minutemen teams. |

Coach DeConto is in
his 4th year with the Crusaders United Soccer Club. Prior to
that, he coached for 6 years at the premier soccer level for the Cape
Cod United Soccer Club. He also served as past president and tournament
director for that organization. Coach DeConto just completed his 5th
year as the girls’ soccer assistant coach at Dennis-Yarmouth Regional
High School. The girls’ team at Dennis-Yarmouth has participated in the
post-season tournament in each of those five years. DeConto is a member
of the Crusaders United SC Executive Board and a member of the MA Soccer
Conference Board of Directors, as well as one of its co-founder’s. Coach
DeConto is a member of the National Soccer Coaches Association of
America and holds both his National & Advanced National coaching
licenses from that organization |

Coach:
Coach Foley has been coaching in the Crusaders
organization since 2001, he has also been the varsity girl’s soccer
coach at Plymouth North HS since 1998, where he also teaches physical
education. Has won league championships 2001, 2003, and 2004. Coach
Foley’s teams have qualified for the state tournament every year he has
been at the helm, and made it to the South Sectional Finals in 2001 and
the Sectional Semi’s in 2002. Coach Foley was named Brockton Enterprise
Coach of the year in 2001. Prior to taking the position at Plymouth
North Coach Foley was the Head Coach at Carver High School for two
years. In his second year he brought the girls program to the state
tournament for the first time in the schools history. Coach Foley
coached the Coastal Bay State Games team in 2001, and he is also the
Coaching Advisor for Plymouth Youth Soccer, and a Co-Director of
Advantage Soccer School. Member of the National Soccer Coaches
Association and Eastern Mass. Girls Soccer Coaches Association.
Player:
Graduated Plymouth High School in 1991, where he was
a captain and a two time Old Colony League All-Star. After high school,
Eric played his collegiate soccer at Keene State College, where he was a
four year starter. Captained the team as a senior, was a NSCAA All-New
England selection, played in the NEISL Senior Bowl All – Star game, and
named 1994 – 1995 Keene State’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Bill Johnson - Director of Boys -

Coach:
Bill’s boys team was the first Crusader Boys team in the program in
1997. He has coached Crusaders boys teams to two State Cup championships
( 1999 and 2001) and a Region 1 Final berth in 1999, with a team ranked
7th in the nation. His teams with the Crusaders have been in
the State Cups for 7 years from 1997 through 2003 and have produced two
High School All Americans.(Chris Corcoran and Brian Johnson 2000)
Bill also started the Silver Lake HS Soccer Program in 1977 and brought
the program from its infancy to a Division 1 State Championship in 1988.
From 1986 until his retirement in 2000 his teams qualified for the MIAA
state tournament each year and was part of three South Sectional Finals
and with Old Colony League titles in 1990, 91, 92, 93, 94, 98, and 99.
In that time span Silver Lake players were awarded 9 All New England and
2 All American (Phil Caruso and John Mileikis) awards.
He was voted Boston Globe Coach of the Year in both 1987 and 1991 and is
a member of the Massachusetts Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in voted in
2000. He is an active member in the NSCAA and was the Eastern Mass
Soccer Coaches Secretary for over 20 years.
Coach Johnson holds licenses in both the USSF C and B levels, as well as
the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma. He is presently the Silver Lake
Regional HS Athletic Director. |

As a former Crusaders player Brian was on the first boy’s team in the
Crusaders program back in 1997. State Semi-Finalist 1997, 2000, 2001,
State Finalist 1998, and State Champions 1999, 2002

Rutgers University (’01-’04)
Brian played in all but 4 games over his 4 year Div. 1 career at
Rutgers. Advanced to Sweet Sixteen in 2001 after defeating defending
National Champion UConn. In 2003, Rutgers had a national ranking as
high as #5 and advanced to the Big East Finals and NCAA tournament.

Coach Maki has been a girls coach within the Crusaders
United Soccer since the year 2000. As a Crusaders girls coach,
Coach Maki has been both a head coach and assistant coach for several of
our teams from U11-U18. He was also the club Developmental
Coordinator/Trainer from 2002-2004. Coach Maki is also the current head
coach for the girls varsity soccer program at Scituate High School,
where he is also employed as a teacher. At Scituate, Coach Maki is
also the boy's JV lacrosse coach. Previous to Scituate, he
was also an assistant coach at Plymouth South High School for 5 years. Coach Maki
is also the head coach for the U13 Blackwatch Premier Super Y team.
Coach Maki is an active board member for the Plymouth Youth Soccer
Association and has been the referee coordinator for Plymouth since
2001.
Coach Maki is USSF licensed and a member of the National Soccer Coaches
Association, as well as being a certified referee at both the youth and
high school level for over 10 years.

Coach
John McCully has been coaching in the Crusaders organization since
2002. He has been the Varsity Boys’ Soccer Coach, at Nauset Regional
High School, since 1996. His teams have won League Champions in 1996
and 2003. Division I South Sectional Champions in 2003, Massachusetts
State Semi Finalists Division I 2003. John is four time Cape Cod Times
“Coach of the Year”. Currently head coach of Nauset Storm Cape Cod
Amateur Soccer League.
Prior to taking the varsity position at Nauset Regional H.S., he was J.V.
Boys soccer coach at Nauset Regional H.S. for six years, and a player
and assistant coach for the Cape Cod Crusaders for two years, Assistant
Coach at Keene State College in 1985. He is a member of the National
Soccer Coaches Association and the Eastern Mass. Boys Soccer Coaches
Association. U.S. Soccer Robert McNulty Award winner, as the top
coaching candidate, at the U.S. Soccer Coaching School in 1995. Coach
McCully holds both USSF C and B licenses as well as the NSCAA Advanced
National Diploma and NSCAA Premier Diploma.
Player:
As a soccer player he graduated from Nauset Regional High School in
1980, where he was captain and a two time Cape and Islands All Star, won
the Division II State Champion, and was selected the Larry Briggs Award,
given to the State Championship Soccer Finals M.V.P. holds Nauset
Regional High School scoring record with 39 goals, 16 assists in his
senior year. After High School, John played his collegiate soccer at
Keene State College where he was a four year starter, Captain of his
team as a Senior, was a tree-time NSCAA All New England selection,
played in three NEISL All Star Games, was a three-time NCAA All American
and is also the third leading scorer in Keene’s school history. In 1993
he was inducted into the Keene State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
After college he played thirteen years in the Lasa semi-professional
soccer league for Fall River Sports, Fall River Athletico, Taunton
Sports and Lowell Blues. Played fifteen ears with the Orleans Storm of
the Cape Cod Amateur Soccer League, where he won ten Championships. |

Jason Percy - Head Coach U14 Boys -

Coach:
Jason is currently the Men's Asst. Coach at Wheaton College.
He began coaching at the
Salisbury School in Salisbury, Connecticut. As an assistant varsity
soccer coach, he helped Salisbury to the New England Championship in
2003 and a 25-5-4 record during the 2003 and 2004 seasons. He has also
been the Thirds Basketball head coach and served as a tutor, adviser and
dorm head.
Percy worked as the co-director of activities at the World Class Soccer
Camp in Duxbury during the summers of 2001-05. At the camp, he taught
elementary and advanced level skills to children ages 5 through 14.
Player:
During his playing days, Percy guided the Lyons to a 65-16-2 record, as
well as a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC)
postseason titles. Wheaton advanced to the NCAA Tournament his sophomore
season before getting all the way to the NCAA Elite Eight his junior
year. In 72 career games, he collected nine goals and 20 assists. He
served as a team captain his senior season.
Percy earned a degree in European history from Wheaton in 2003. |

Maynard Sangster - Head Coach U16 Boys (Div.1)-

Coach:
Maynard Sangster is the boy’s u-16 coach and has been a Crusaders United
coach since 2001. He started coaching youth soccer 24 years ago with the
boys u-12 travel team for the Winnetka, Illinois soccer program. He also
coaches for Duxbury Youth Soccer and is a board member of that
organization. As a USSF licensed coach, he is also a member of the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Coach Sangster has also
coached/managed men’s teams in the Eastern Massachusetts Soccer
Association and The New England Over the Hill Soccer League. Coach
Sangster was born in Wiesbaden, Germany and his favorite player is Franz
Beckenabuer. Besides the Crusaders United teams, he also supports
Duxbury HS, St. Anselm’s College & the New England Revolution. He now
lives in Duxbury, MA with his wife ,two sons and one dog.

Jason Tassinari-Head Coach U17 Girls -

Crusaders Coach:
Jason is currently is the Boys Under 14 head
coach for the Crusaders United Soccer Club. Jason has been with the
Crusaders since 1999, coaching the Boys 10-17 team from 1999-2006,
and the Girls 15-17 team from 2006-2008.
Coaching History:
From 2004-2007, Tassinari was the Head Women's Soccer Coach
at Division 3 Emerson College in Boston. The Lions won the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference regular season championship his first
year (2004), while compiling the most single season wins in the
program's history (13). Tassinari was named the GNAC conference
Coach of the Year in 2004, and in his 4 years at Emerson, the
program's record was 45-21-10. His 2007 team tied the 2004 squad
with 13 wins, while making it to the GNAC Finals and the ECAC
tournament for the first time in the program's history. While at
Emerson, Tassinari coached two GNAC conference Player's of the Year,
5 first team all-conference players, and one ESPN The Magazine
Academic All-District player.
Prior to Emerson, Tassinari was the Head Men’s Soccer Coach at
Division 2 Stonehill College (Easton, Mass.), where in three years
as head coach his teams won 20 matches including a #4 seed in the
1999 Northeast 10 Conference Tournament. In 2003, Tassinari was the
Assistant Women’s Soccer Coach at Wheaton College (Norton, Mass.).
The Lyons won the NEWMAC championship and advanced to the NCAA Elite
Eight in 2003 with a 24-2-0 overall record. As head boys soccer
coach at King Phillip Regional High School (Wrentham, Mass.) from
1996-1998, Tassinari’s teams compiled an overall record of 25-3-5
and won the 1996 Hockomock League Championship. His first college
coaching job was in 1995 with his alma-mater, Bridgewater State, as
the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach.
Jason coached the Boys and Girls Coastal Region soccer teams for the
Bay State Games from 2001-2006. The Coastal Boys Scholastic team won
a gold medal (2001), a silver medal (2004), and a bronze (2003). The
2002 team won the coveted Sportsmanship Award. In 2005, Tassinari's
Coastal Girls Scholastic Bay State Games team advanced to the bronze
medal game and in 2006, earned a silver medal and also took home the
Sportsmanship Award. Coach Tassinari currently holds NSCAA and USSF
coaching licenses. Jason has a US Indoor National Referee
Certification and is also a regional indoor referee instructor for
the United States Indoor Soccer Association. He is also currently
the Referee Coordinator/Head Referee and Special Facility Consultant
at the JunglePlex Sports and Convention Center in Plymouth, MA
(formerly the Plymouth Sports Dome).
Player:
A native of Plymouth, Mass., Tassinari is a 1991 graduate of
Plymouth North High School where he was a sweeper/marking back for 2
years and a captain his senior season. He received a Bachelor of
Science degree in Communications from Bridgewater State College in
1995 and a minor in coaching. Tassinari was a four-year starting
sweeper/marking back at Bridgewater, and was a two-time member of
the Massachusetts State Athletic Conference All-Conference Team. He
captained Bridgewater State during his senior season in 1994 and
guided the Bears to a pair of ECAC New England Division III
Tournament appearances in 1993 and 1994.

Coach:
Erica’s coaching career has seen her work within two Division 1 College
programs as well as many youth soccer teams throughout the region.

Player:
Erica experienced incredible successes as a player. A four year starter
and captain at UMass, Amherst earned her All American accolades her
senior year. Two seasons in W League with the Boston Renegades saw her
awarded with League All Star selections as well as team MVP in both 2001
and 2002. Her success continued with the launch of the WUSA. As a
starting defender with the Philadelphia Charge she was voted “defender
of the year” by Soccer America, and once again made appearances within
the league All Star Team.
